A long winter

Out and About

We ran away this weekend.   It was very long overdue.  Winter is hard here for us with the very limited light (although I easily admit that since it has been “very dry” in Western Washington terms, I’ve enjoyed it more).  This winter has been worse.   In December a colleague of mine – my [...]

Christmas Cookies

So it’s December?  Or should I say it’s almost 2013?!  Not like you need me to state the obvious, I’m just reflecting on how much of my “life” seems to be under different categories.  I’m obviously not able to keep up with every thing (this blog included) but I’m not quite willing to let it [...]

A visual tour of our latest meals

Making fancy potatoes for the girls "Princess dinner" - easier with a great pair of squared-off chopsticks as cutting guides. Don't slice all the way through, just down until about 1/3-1/2 inch. Then slightly separate the potatoes when placing in the baking dish and drizzle with butter, season to your desired levels and top with some great chopped parsley.

Okay – so sitting down to type up a post just has not happened.  I have been sick lately – not just with a cold, but beyond normal.  I thought I had mono (nope) and am just ready to be able to take a full breath again.  I’m so tired, but life just does not [...]

Gluten free weeknight meals & budgeting

So this blog post should really be a post of the numerous ways the month of September has come and is exiting before my head has been able to wrap itself around it all.  Surely I am not the only mom who finds herself witnessing myself both coming and going in the middle of the [...]

Strawberry ice cream, snowmen and power-outages = the week + that was

UPDATE:  1-25-2012 I started writing this post a few days ago – Like the first day we got power back (Monday night)… and then we lost power again and the post never got finished.  And then it came back…. but as I was writing, the power went out again.  This morning, I’m at home with [...]

Day three… Princess lunch… All GF

Hot dogs by candlelight, anyone? Day 3… No power. I love the quiet.. but no heat?  Killer!!

Help Wanted: Eating GF more wisely, cheaply and saving time. Got tips?

I bet you think I’ve fallen into a large hole around here and have lost internet access, huh? Well, I have, kind of. School started.  Just last year I had 135 students a day (5 classes/high school) and this year?  Oh no… this year I see 171 students (same five classes) and it’s A LOT. [...]

Family Photos and an offer for YOU from Kodak

I love taking pictures. I am certainly not a pro, but for every 500 photos I take, one does turn out nicely.  :D There are so many bloggers now than what used to be about.  And their blogs are gorgeous.  Really.  The photography, the design of their “theme” (what the blog looks like), etc.  I [...]

Gluten free Fresh Ginger and Rhubarb Crisp

Growing up we used to have a couple rhubarb plants outside the cabin door.  I’m sure they were there every year, but I didn’t always notice.  After all, there were blueberries in our yard and across the street.  BLUEBERRIES!  Yum!  And I’m sure my childhood memories are off in their timing, but I remember always [...]

CSA Cooking Week 1: Getting a toddler to eat more veggies

Roasted Radishes, photo by Kate Chan This spring my Love and I have decided to try using a few local food sources more consistently as a means of improving our health, modeling healthy eating for the girls, and primarily – to encourage our little whippersnappers to eat their veggies!  Now don’t get me wrong:  both [...]

Mommy Brag: Photo Friday

I couldn’t resist sharing. The facial expression on Rory’s face just about had me rolling off the chair with chuckles.  She is NEVER so expressionless but the camera/lights/etc freaked her out.  Poor little thing.  And Zoe?  Don’t be fooled!  That smile is all thanks to a the bribe of Smarties (gluten free, by the way). [...]
